“I'm tired of tending to this fire, I've used up all I've collected, I have singed my hands” “Fire’ symbolizes his fight with his mental illness. With the “tending to the fire” his energy has been drained, which is why he is “tired’. He hasn’t completely given up, the fire is just enough to keep him alive. ”It's glowing, embers barely showing, proof of life in the shadows, dancing on my plans” He is in Trench, where it’s a place of battle, fear and uncertainty, but it’s also a place of hope. He built a fire, a small one, “its proof of life in the shadow’ its hope for him. He made plans to surrender to dema. Dema is a city built on mental illness so if he wants to surrender it would mean to give up but the fire represents hope in the darkness. “It's only time before they show me, why no one ever comes back with details from beyond” Tyler confirmed in an interview this song is about losing faith and his doubts about Christianity. The line “no one ever come back with details from beyond” solidifies his doubts with the “beyond” or heaven. “The burning is so low it's concerning, 'cause they know that when it goes out, it's a glorious gone” The burning signifies the Holy Spirit. Tyler is a Christian. He is referring to how weak his belief in God has become. The line “cause they know that when it goes out, it’s a glorious gone” related to the song in the album “neon gravestone” that “when it goes out, it’s a glorious gone” means they gain lots of attention and their suicide is glorified. “In time I will leave the city, for now, I will stay alive...x4” Tyler is talking about Trench, each album is referred to as an era. In the previous album, “Blurryfac” we met Tyler’s demons and named him, Blurryface and trench is the continuing story of fighting Blurryface. So to “leave the city” means to leave Blurryface behind and move on to the next era, which is Trench. It can also be talking about how Tyler is ready to leave the music world. We all know eventually they will retire, but for now, he will stay alive and give us all the music he can. "Last year, I needed a change of pace, couldn't take the pace of change, moving hastily, but this year, though I'm far from home, in Trench, I'm not alone, these faces facing me” The year before Trench was released, Twenty one pilots went on tour for Blurryface from May 2016 to June 2017. Tyler wrote in “Stressed Out” about how stressful fame is. They then went on a year-long hiatus that ended in September 2018, a year-long break that Tyler said was “very necessary”. In the music video for Jumpsuit, we meet “the banditos”, a group of people helping him escape dema. In the video, we see the banditos face him and throw yellow flower petals, a symbol of support and hope. We later learn that the banditos are the fans supporting him. Tyler may mean three things when he says he is “far from home” it could mean he is far from his home or, following the theme of the song, far from heaven, or maybe far from dema. As a Christian, Tyler believes that heaven is his true home. He is far from what he believes to be his home, but in Trench he doesn’t feel alone.
