Levitate

The third single released from Trench is "Levitate" It was leaked by the streaming service TIDAL before the planned release date, followed by the full release date. Trench's tracklist. The song relates to Dema, Trench's theme, "Not today, don’t feed me to the vultures, I am a vulture who feeds on pain" On August 8, 2018, the official music video for "Levitate" was released and is the closing video to Trench's three-part narrative. Levitate is a tough one to figure out. I think it's about the risks of being in the music industry's mainstream, and about their role in the industry and trying not to get swallowed up in the system. Several lines are attacking the industry's commercialism, "this culture is a poacher of overexposure" "chorus verse chorus verse, now here comes the eight / your structure compensates but compensation feels a lot like rising to dominate" Other lines are all about how they fit themselves into the industry, "at least they know all they hear comes from a place" "we are not just graffiti on a passing train" "I got back what I once bought back in that slot", which I see how they say they're not going to let the industry affect them. It seems that the general style of "Levitate" enhances the freedom to fight and win over depression. The use of flying eagles and phrases like "levitating" represent independence. The song begins with an elaboration by Tyler on his ability to levitate. The desire to separate oneself from negativity is metaphorical. Clancy says in "Nico and The Niners," the only way out of Dema is "up", which would be synonymous with flight. "Fire-breathing" may be a reference, which he shows in this song, to his singing or rapping abilities. The lyrics of the song "the things that fell" is how Twenty One Pilot speaks of depression that feeds or fuels you to bring yourself down. Therefore, the resolve to battle the inner demons to get out of depression. This lyric, on the other hand, refers to the vultures flying around, who feed on dead animals-things that have already fallen. Also, Tyler refers to helping battle depression. "Up" may be a reference to a religion or a higher force. Or it may be by self-discovery . Depression is something that could be defeated either way. You have no reason to live in terror. "Come down" seems to be an encouragement to others like Clancy to support others. If the support is "up" and there is a greater force, this is an opportunity to support those in need. Tyler speaks of "cowards" which may refer to the lyrics of "things that fell" from before. Usually, the cowardly feelings that put you down strike you the hardest when it's late at night and when nobody is around. When you are alone, these thoughts and emotions have more power over you. So this is why other people really need to come to their rescue. In "Levitate" Tyler is begging for a "curse." This may mean he finds it easier to deal with a curse from above than the depression.
